Never overlook the importance of colour if you are planning to revamp your website or design a new website. Black text on a white background is the traditional combination that is used for websites, though you may experiment with bolder colours too. For instance, dark blue, black, and gray also make great background colours. However these colours should be avoided if you are using them as a background for product promotions, as any colour other than white would be distracting. For chromatic harmony, you must use an average of three different colours that can be used consistently on your web pages.

Freedom that is free of responsibilities can make one oblivious of one’s image in society. Similarly a website with all the bells and whistles attached, but poor in content and focus will hardly be noticed on the web. In our endeavour to create a lasting impression, one tends to exhaust all options available without really thinking about the need for such garish features.
Since reading from a web page can be more difficult than that from a printed document, the background colour for the website must be such that the text is readable with minimum effort. While superimposing text on to graphics, the text should still be clearly visible.

Check out forms are good for your system to keep track of sales and for the customer to verify that he is buying the right item. However, poor forms can drive away even serious customers.
Use these forms from another location to see that it is actually working at all times. Many a times an error message may pop up even when the user has provided the right information. This may be due to a bug in the system. Clearly specify the key to be used to move from one field to another, right at the beginning.
Use minimum number of pages and ask only relevant questions. Remember that the customer knows your product and hence is ready to buy. The form should not appear as though you are questioning their identity.

It is indeed surprising that in spite of memory chip processing speeds growing in leaps and bounds, the web-based applications still take longer than expected time to load. Some the reasons being, heavy HTML documents, addition of content that no one really notices, excessive animation and video graphics.
When a user enters a website, the computer sends a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) request to download all components that make up a page. The parts include text scripts, images, multimedia elements like animation and video. The more the number of components, more is the number of requests and slower the rate of page load. One of the simple solutions is to minimize page components and in turn lower HTTP requests. Another method is to link up all components into a single HTTP request so as to load the page as a single time.
