And just like with Microsoft Windows’ being the most popular desktop operating system makes it the number-one target for attacks, WordPress is the blog software that most spammers and security crackers target.

So here’s a little link list for getting your WordPress blog in shape. At least if you put all of this information to use, you’ll be as secure as anybody who uses WordPress.

First, here’s the official WordPress Security Whitepaper. This is as recent as April of 2008, and it’s also translated into Chinese, Italian, German, and Spanish, as well as English. You’ll probably find it dense reading, but at least it’s good to have on hand for a reference.

This plug-in hosted at WordPress.org is a WP security scanner. It can automatically check for common problems.

A list of quick WordPress security tips. These are all easy and quick to implement.

Finally, the WordPress development blog. If any news about security vulnerabilities and updates comes up, it will come up here first.

Remember, when you secure your site, you make the Internet safer for all of us as well.

In simple terms, blog carnivals are a particular type of blog community. The major point to remember is that these carnivals typically work by collecting links that point to blog articles related to the topic of that carnival. It is similar to a magazine that is published on a particular topic like sports, fashion etc. Many of these blog carnivals literally work like the magazines and publications with editions of these carnivals published on regular basis e.g 5th day of every month etc. These editions contain articles that have links to all those, who submit articles to these carnivals. There may be opinions of the editors or comments posted on such articles. From this description SEO may have already found the opportunity to make use of such carnivals for the success of their website.

The blog carnivals are generally started by the organizers, while they are hosted by volunteers. The organizers would schedule, as to who would host them. The bloggers submit their articles for inclusion in the next edition of the carnival. They do so by submitting links to selected posts to a carnival host. This is where the opportunity exists for SEOs. If you have interesting and good quality articles that you may submit to such carnivals, you can have links from such carnivals, ultimately coming back to your website. But, how do you reach out to your customers? This is not difficult, as the carnival cannot be successful without having an audience. The audience to such carnivals may be bloggers, as well as readers, who are interested in finding information related to that carnival subject. These may be the customers, whom you may reach out to.

Article submission to Carnivals is very useful and free of cost. Generally, there may be some advertisement of the carnival placed on your website, which is enough to offset the cost. It is very important that when you participate in such carnivals, you should have extremely informative articles to post. Find a few carnivals that match the topic of your business. This is necessary, as you want relevant customers to visit your website. When prospective customers search for products related to your business, search engine spiders would come across carnivals that have your links. This helps, as your website can then achieve a higher search engine ranking.

As your site lists higher, you can start getting lot more search engine traffic. It is very useful to have back links coming from blog carnivals, as back links are important criteria for page rankings. Though it may take some days to start noticing traffic, it eventually picks up. Moreover, as you have a greater chance to get relevant traffic, the chances of conversions are more. There are blog carnivals on subjects of all types, with products that you offer related to them. You can submit your blog articles to such carnivals, where they are related to your products. A customer trying to find health food for pets may also be interested in accessories for pet. So, if you have such links to offer, you may also submit to such carnivals.

When you submit articles to carnivals do ensure that you follow the instructions of the manager of the carnival. Ensure that you do not submit overly commercial post that can be considered as spam. Spin out great quality articles to post on such blog carnivals and achieve SEO success.
